Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.

And Nabal answered David's servants and said, "What is David? And what is the son of Jesse? There is plenty of servants nowadays, that break away every man from his master.
For the ungodly hath made boast of his own heart's desire, and speaketh good of the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.
Then shall the niggard be no more called gentle, nor the churl liberal.
