So we sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the good news of Christ. He came to strengthen and encourage you concerning your faith.

After time passed Paul said to Barnabas: Let us go again and visit our brothers in every city where we have preached the Word of God, and see how they are doing.

When we came to Macedonia our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side, fighting on the outside and fears on the inside.

For you know brothers that our coming to you was not in vein.

I said: I have toiled in vain. I have spent my energy for nothing and vanity. Yet, to be sure, the justice due to me is with Jehovah. My reward is with my God.

I went in response to a revelation. I demonstrated to them the way I spread the good news among the people of the nations. I did this privately before them for they have a reputation. I am concerned that by any means I should be running, or had run, in vain.

I fear for you, that I have labored for you to no purpose (and failed).

Hold fast to the word of life so I may rejoice in the day of Christ. That way I will not have labored in vain.
