because that by the deeds of the law, shall no flesh be justified in the sight of God. For by the law cometh the knowledge of sin.

That he rent

Then king Hezekiah heard that, he rent his clothes and put on sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
And the king, as soon as he had heard the words of the book of the law, he rent his clothes
Now the king sat in the winter house, for it was in the ninth Month, and there was a good fire before him.
And tear your hearts and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God. For he is full of mercy and compassion, long ere he be angry, and great in mercy and repentance when he is at the point to punish.
