And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise and make sport before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.

And on the morrow he shewed himself to them as they were contending, and compelled them to peace, saying, Ye are brethren, why do ye wrong one another?

Then David said to the messenger, Thus shalt thou say to Joab: Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devours one as well as another: make thy battle strong against the city, and overthrow it; and encourage him.

but if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.

In vain have I smitten your children: they received no correction. Your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
