Then there fell a hunger in the days of David: three years, year by year. And David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, "It is for Saul's sake and the house of blood, because he slew the Gibeonites."

After this there came a dearth in the land. And Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there, for the dearth was sore in the land.

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest which shall ask counsel for him, after the manner of the light, before the LORD: And at the mouth of Eleazar shall both he and all the children of Israel with him, and all the congregation, go in and out."

And there fell a dearth in the land, passing the first dearth that fell in the days of Abraham. Wherefore Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines, unto Gerar.

But yet the children of Israel trespassed in the excommunicate things: for Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah, took of the excommunicate things. And the wrath of the LORD waxed hot against the children of Israel.

Israel hath sinned and also transgressed my covenant, which I commanded them, and have taken of the excommunicate things, and have stolen and hid them, and also put them unto their own stuff:

Then said the king unto his footmen that stood about him, "Turn and slay the priests of the LORD, both because their hand is with David and because they knew when David fled and showed it not to me." But the servants of the king would not move their hands, to run upon the priests of the LORD.

Then David asked the LORD's advice, saying, "Shall I go and smite the Philistines?" And the LORD said unto David, "Go, and smite the Philistines and save Keilah."

Then David asked the LORD again. And the LORD answered him and said, "Up, and go to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hands."

Will the men of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Or will Saul come as thy servant heareth say? LORD God of Israel, tell thy servant." And the LORD said, "He will come."

And David asked of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go to the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into my hands?" And the LORD said unto David, "Go, for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hands."

And David asked the LORD, and he said, "Go not. But compass them on the back side and come down upon them from the pear trees.

And Elijah the Tishbite, which was of the inhabiters of Gilead, said unto Ahab, "As truly as the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, save as I appoint it."

And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab, for there was a great famishment in Samaria.

And there arose great dearth in Samaria: for they had besieged it, until an ass's head was worth four score sicles of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of doves' dung worth five sicles.

Then spake Elisha unto the woman whose son he had restored to life again, saying, "Up, and go both thou and thine house, and sojourn where thou thinkest best, for the LORD will call a dearth which shall come on the land seven years."

But now will I speak of the LORD, and talk of God:

and will say unto God: O do not condemn me; but show me the cause, wherefore thou contendest so with me.

And call upon me in the time of trouble; so will I hear thee, and thou shalt praise me."

When he calleth upon me, I shall hear him: Yea I am with him in his trouble; whereout I will deliver him, and bring him to honour.

The word of the LORD showed unto Jeremiah, concerning the dearth of the fruits.
