For this is why I wrote you, to see if you would stand the test, to see if you would be obedient in everything.

Yes, his heart is running over toward you, as he continues recalling how you all obeyed him, with what reverence and trembling you welcomed him.

and am prepared to punish any disobedience, when your obedience is made complete.

So, my dearly loved friends, as you have always been obedient, so now with reverence and awe keep on working clear down to the finishing point of your salvation not only as though I were with you but much more because I am away;

So whoever rejects this teaching is rejecting not man but God who continues to put His Spirit in you.

I write you in perfect confidence in your compliance with my wish, because I am sure that you will do even more than I ask.

Continue to obey and to be submissive to your leaders, for they are ever watching in defense of your souls, as men who will have to give account of their trust. Treat them in this way, so that they may work with joy and not with grief.

By this epistle, note that man

Now we charge you, brothers, on the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, to hold yourselves aloof from any brother who is living as a shirker instead of following the teachings you received from us.

And if he refuses to listen to the church, treat him as a heathen and as a tax-collector.

But I beg you, brothers, to keep on the lookout for those who stir up divisions and put hindrances in your way, in opposition to the instruction that you had, and always avoid them.

I wrote you in my letter to stop associating with sexually immoral people --

After one or two warnings to a man who is factious, stop having anything to do with him,
