John, beforehand proclaiming, before the face of his coming in, an immersion of repentance, unto all the people of Israel.
Beginning from the immersion by John until the day when he was taken up from us, that, a witness of his resurrection along with us, should one of these become.
Now, in those days, came John the Immerser, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judaea;
According as it is written in Isaiah the prophet - Lo! I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way, -
And, even thou, child, prophet of the Most High, shalt be called, - for thou shall march on before the Lord, to prepare his ways,
in the High-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, came a word of God unto John the son, of Zechariah, in rue desert;
There arose a man, sent from God, whose name was, John:
(John beareth witness concerning him, and hath cried aloud, saying - the same, was he that said - He who, after me, was coming, before me, hath advanced; because, my Chief, was he.)
There arose, therefore, a questioning, from among the disciples of John, with a Jew, - concerning purification.
Ye, have sent forth unto John, - and he hath borne witness to the truth: -
Ye yourselves, know what hath come to pass throughout the whole of Judaea, beginning from Galilee, after the immersion which John proclaimed, respecting Jesus who was of Nazareth: -
And he said - Into what, then, were ye immersed? And, they, said - Unto John's immersion.
