Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged; to the Jews I have done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.

and set up false witnesses, who said, This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law,

Then Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

who also has gone about to profane the temple, whom we took and would have judged according to our law.

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the principals of the Jews together, and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,

for indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews; neither have I done anything here that they should put me into the prison.

Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, In what have I sinned against thee or against thy slaves or against this people that ye have put me in prison?

My God has sent his angel, who shut the lions' mouths, that they do me no evil because before him righteousness was found in me; and even before thee, O king, I have done no corruption.

For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with carnal wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world and more abundantly towards you.
