They traveled the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they found Barjesus. He was a sorcerer, a false prophet and a Jew.

A young woman who had a spirit of divination met us as we were going to the place of prayer. She brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.

Many of the believers confessed openly about the evil things they had done.

Then Pharaoh sent for his wise men and sorcerers. These Egyptian magicians did the same thing using their magic spells.

The magicians tried to use their magic to make gnats appear, but they failed. There were gnats everywhere!

The magicians were not able to appear before Moses, because they were covered with boils, like all the other Egyptians.

If any of you go for advice to people who consult the spirits of the dead, I will turn against you and will no longer consider you one of my people.

Do not sacrifice your children in the fires on your altars. Do not let your people practice divination or look for omens or use spells or charms.

Giving

Sometime ago Theudas claimed to be somebody. About four hundred men joined and obeyed him. He was killed and they finally dispersed.

He who speaks from his own authority seeks his own glory. He who seeks glory for the one who sent him is true. Unrighteousness is not found in him.

He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship. As a result, he seats himself in the sanctuary of God and declares (promotes) himself to be like God. (Ezekiel 28:2)

For men will be lovers of their own selves, covetous (lovers of money), arrogant, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful (ungrateful), unholy,

For, uttering arrogant words of vanity, they entice in the desires (lusts) of the flesh, by sensuality (lasciviousness), those who are just escaping from the ones who live in error.
