Let your love be a real thing, with a loathing for evil and a bent for what is good.

I cannot understand my own actions; I do not act as I want to act; on the contrary, I do what I detest.

I cordially agree with God's law, so far as my inner self is concerned,

For the interests of the flesh are hostile to God; they do not yield to the law of God (indeed they cannot).

but test them all, retaining what is good

Beloved, do not imitate evil but good; he who does good belongs to God, he who does evil has never seen God.
