Your speech should always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.

but honor the Messiah as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.

Salt is good, but if the salt should lose its flavor, how can you make it salty? Have salt among yourselves and be at peace with one another.”

No foul language is to come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.

You are to season each of your grain offerings with salt; you must not omit from your grain offering the salt of the covenant with your God. You are to present salt with each of your offerings.

I will speak of Your decrees before kings
and not be ashamed.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty? It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled on by men.

Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God.

These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart.

Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonderful works among all peoples.

The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom;
his tongue speaks what is just.

I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly;
see, I do not keep my mouth closed
as You know, Lord.

You are the most handsome of men;
grace flows from your lips.
Therefore God has blessed you forever.

Come and listen, all who fear God,
and I will tell what He has done for me.

My mouth will tell about Your righteousness
and Your salvation all day long,
though I cannot sum them up.

My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to You
because You have redeemed me.

and that our fathers have passed down to us.

Sing to Him, sing praise to Him;
tell about all His wonderful works!

With my lips I proclaim
all the judgments from Your mouth.

The lips of the righteous feed many,
but fools die for lack of sense.

The tongue that heals is a tree of life,
but a devious tongue breaks the spirit.

The lips of the wise broadcast knowledge,
but not so the heart of fools.

Anyone with a wise heart is called discerning,
and pleasant speech increases learning.

Listen closely, pay attention to the words of the wise,
and apply your mind to my knowledge.

A word spoken at the right time
is like gold apples on a silver tray.

Don’t answer a fool according to his foolishness
or you’ll be like him yourself.

The words from the mouth of a wise man are gracious,
but the lips of a fool consume him.

At that time those who feared the Lord spoke to one another. The Lord took notice and listened. So a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who feared Yahweh and had high regard for His name.

Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

They were all speaking well of Him and were amazed by the gracious words that came from His mouth, yet they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”

They watched closely and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, so they could catch Him in what He said, to hand Him over to the governor’s rule and authority.
