At least there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.

So Jehovah will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed (rush) in one day.

There must go forth a twig out of the stump of Jesse. A branch (sprout) (shoot) (descendant) from his roots will bear fruit.

You plant them, and they take root. They grow and bear fruit. You are near their lips, but far from their mind.

Jehovah of Hosts proclaims: The day is coming when all arrogant and evil people will burn like stubble. On that day they will burn up and there will be nothing left of them, either root or bough.

One stand

Then one will stand up in his place who will send an oppressor (tax collecter) to pass through the glory of the kingdom. However, he will be destroyed within a few days, neither in anger, nor in battle.

One can see that wise people die, that foolish and stupid people meet the same end. They leave their wealth to others.

Let his days be few in number. Let someone else take his place.

But God said to him: 'You fool this night you will give up your life. Then who will have all these things you accumulated?'

He broke his oath and the treaty he had made. He did all these things, and now he will not escape.'
