For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the tax-gatherers and harlots believed on him. But ye, when ye saw it, repented not afterwards, that ye should believe on him.

In like manner, ye who are younger persons, be in subjection to your elders: but all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed from head to foot with humility: for God sets himself in opposition to the proud, but he giveth grace to the lowly.

And that servant, who knew his master's will, and made no preparation for him, nor did according to his pleasure, shall be beaten with many stripes.

If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye practise them.

But he giveth mightier grace. Wherefore he saith, "God sets himself against the proud, but giveth grace to the lowly."
