but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy princes, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; furthermore, thou hast praised gods of silver and of gold, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand is thy soul and whose are all thy ways, thou hast never honoured.

In his hand is the soul of every living thing and the spirit of all flesh of man.

O LORD, I know that man is not the lord of his own way: it is not in man that walks to order his steps.

Does he not see my ways and count all my steps?

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

Of what profit is the graven image that its maker has sculpted; the molten image, that teaches lies, so that in making dumb images the maker trusts in his work?

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

And he blessed him and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of the heavens and of the earth;

Then the cardinals of the Philistines gathered themselves together to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god and to rejoice, for they said, Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hands.

And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.

If he were to set his heart upon man and gather unto himself his spirit and his breath,

Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; thou takest away their spirit, they cease to exist and return to their dust.

The heavens are the heavens of the LORD, but the earth he has given to the sons of Adam.

His spirit shall go forth, he shall return to his earth; in that very day all his thoughts shall perish.

Now I will rise up, saith the LORD; now I will be exalted; now I will be lifted up.

Thus saith God the LORD, the Creator of the heavens and he that stretches them out; he that spreads forth the earth and that which comes out of it; he that gives breath unto the people upon it and spirit to those that walk therein:

Belshazzar, under the influence of the wine, commanded that they bring the vessels of gold and of silver which Nebuchadnezzar his father had brought from the temple of Jerusalem; that the king and his princes, his wives and his concubines, might drink with them.

Behold, he whose soul is not upright in him will become filled with pride, but the just in his faith shall live.

neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he gives to all life and breath and all things

for in him we live and move and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also of his lineage.

because having known God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

As concerning, therefore, the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

not a novice, lest being puffed up, he fall into judgment of the devil.

Neither is there any created thing that is not manifested in his presence, but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him of whom we speak.

And there was given unto it a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto it to continue forty and two months.
