But and if there be any man that hateth his neighbour and layeth await for him and riseth against him and smiteth him that he die, and fleeth unto any of these cities;
"Thou shalt not kill.
"He that smiteth a man that he die, shall be slain for it.
"He that killeth any man, shall die for it,
Moreover ye shall take none amends for the life of the murderer, which is worthy to die: But he shall be put to death.
And when Abner was come again to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate, to speak with him guilefully, and there smote him under the short ribs that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.
