The Lord spoke further to me, saying, ‘I have seen this people, and indeed, it is a stubborn people.

“Know, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people.

So circumcise your heart, and stiffen your neck no longer.

For I know your rebellion and your stubbornness; behold, while I am still alive with you today, you have been rebellious against the Lord; how much more, then, after my death?

However, they did not listen, but stiffened their neck like their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God.

The Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

I will go down now, and see if they have done entirely according to its outcry, which has come to Me; and if not, I will know.”

The Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, they are an obstinate people.

Hear, O My people, and I will speak;
O Israel, I will testify against you;
I am God, your God.

Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” declares the Lord.

“As for your adulteries and your lustful neighings,
The lewdness of your prostitution
On the hills in the field,
I have seen your abominations.
Woe to you, O Jerusalem!
How long will you remain unclean?”

In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing;
Ephraim’s harlotry is there, Israel has defiled itself.

“Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages, the widow and the orphan, and those who turn aside the alien and do not fear Me,” says the Lord of hosts.
