No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

When the angel who spoke to him had left, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier of those who were his personal attendants,

Slaves, in everything obey those who are your masters according to the flesh, not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.

Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be spoken against.

Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not to talk back to them,

Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are overbearing.

no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, as a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

And his affection goes out all the more to you, as he remembers the obedience of you all, how you received him with fear and trembling.

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;

when they see your chaste and respectful behavior.
