Return Of The Lord's Glory And Description Of Sacrifices And Worship

1 The man took me to the east gate.

1 Afterward he brought me to the gate, even the gate that looketh toward the east:

1 Then he led me to the (A)gate, the gate facing toward the east;

1 He led me to the gate,(A) the one that faces east,

1 Next, he brought me to the east-facing gate,

2 I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the sound of rushing water, and the earth was shining because of his glory.

2 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.

2 and behold, the (B)glory of the God of Israel was coming from the way of the (C)east. And His (D)voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth (E)shone with His glory.

2 and I saw the glory of the God of Israel(B) coming from the east.(C) His voice sounded like the roar of mighty waters,(D) and the earth shone with His glory.(E)

2 and the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. His voice sounded like roaring water, and the land shimmered from his glory.

3 This vision was like the one I saw when he came to destroy Jerusalem and like the one I saw by the Chebar River. I immediately bowed down.

3 And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.

3 And it was like the appearance of the vision which I saw, like the (F)vision which I saw when (a)He came to (G)destroy the city. And the visions were like the vision which I saw by the (H)river Chebar; and I (I)fell on my face.

3 The vision I saw(F) was like the one I had seen when He(a) came to destroy the city,(G) and like the ones I had seen by the Chebar Canal.(H) I fell facedown.(I)

3 His appearance in the vision that I was having was similar to what I observed in the vision where he had come to destroy the city, and also like the visions that I saw by the Chebar River. I fell flat on my face

4 Jehovah's glory came into the Temple through the east gate.

4 And the glory of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east.

4 And the glory of the Lord came into the house by the way of the gate facing toward the (J)east.

4 The glory of the Lord entered the temple by way of the gate that faced east.(J)

4 while the glory of the LORD entered the Temple through the east-facing gate.

5 The Spirit lifted me and brought me into the inner courtyard. I saw Jehovah's glory fill the Temple.

5 So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house.

5 And the (K)Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the (L)glory of the Lord filled the house.

5 Then the Spirit lifted me up(K) and brought me to the inner court, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.(L)

5 Just then, the Spirit lifted me up and carried me into the inner courtyard, where the glory of the LORD was filling the Temple!

6 I heard someone speaking to me from inside the Temple while the man was standing beside me.

6 And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.

6 Then I heard one speaking to me from the house, while a (M)man was standing beside me.

6 While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from the temple.(M)

6 I heard someone speaking to me from the Temple, and a man appeared, standing beside me!

7 The voice said: Son of man, this is the place where my throne is and the place where my feet rest. This is where I will live among the Israelites for a very long time. Then the people of Israel and their kings will no longer dishonor my holy name by acting like prostitutes. They will not dishonor it with the dead bodies of their kings.

7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.

7 He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My (N)throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will (O)dwell among the sons of Israel forever. And the house of Israel will not again defile My holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their harlotry and by the (b)(P)corpses of their kings (c)when they die,

7 He said to me: “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place for the soles of My feet,(N) where I will dwell among the Israelites forever.(O) The house of Israel and their kings will no longer defile My holy name by their religious prostitution and by the corpses(b)(P) of their kings at their high places.(c)(Q)

7 "Son of Man," the Lord GOD told me, "This is where my throne is, where I place the soles of my feet, and where I will live among the Israelis forever. The house of Israel will no longer defile my holy name neither they nor their kings by their unfaithfulness, by the lifeless idols of their kings on their funeral mounds,

8 They put their doorway by my doorway and their doorposts by my doorposts. Only a wall separated me from them. They dishonored my holy name because of the disgusting things that they have done. So I destroyed them in my anger.

8 In their setting of their threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.

8 by setting their threshold by My threshold and their door post beside My door post, with only the wall between Me and them. And they have (Q)defiled My holy name by their abominations which they have committed. So I have consumed them in My anger.

8 Whenever they placed their threshold next to My threshold and their doorposts beside My doorposts, with only a wall between Me and them, they were defiling My holy name by the detestable acts they committed.(R) So I destroyed them in My anger.

8 by their setting up their threshold too close to my threshold and their door post too close to my door post, with a wall between me and them. After all, they have defiled my holy name by the loathsome things that they did, so I devoured them in my anger.

9 They must stop acting like prostitutes and take the dead bodies of their kings far away from me. Then I will live among them for a very long time.

9 Now let them put away their whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever.

9 Now let them (R)put away their harlotry and the (d)corpses of their kings far from Me; and I will (S)dwell among them forever.

9 Now let them remove their prostitution and the corpses(d)(S) of their kings far from Me, and I will dwell among them forever.(T)

9 But now let them send their unfaithfulness that is, the lifeless idols of their kings far away from me, and I will live among them forever."

10 Son of man, describe this Temple to the people of Israel. Then they will be ashamed because of their sins. Let them study the plans.

10 Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern.

10 “As for you, son of man, (e)(T)describe the (f)temple to the house of Israel, that they may be (U)ashamed of their iniquities; and let them measure the (g)(V)plan.

10 “As for you, son of man, describe the temple to the house of Israel,(U) so that they may be ashamed of their iniquities.(V) Let them measure its pattern,(W)

10 "And now, Son of Man, describe the Temple to the house of Israel. They will be ashamed because of their sin. They will measure its pattern.

11 Suppose they are ashamed of everything that they have done. Then show them the design of the Temple, its arrangements, its exits and entrances-its entire design. Tell them about all its rules and regulations. Then write these things down for them so that they can remember its design and follow all its rules.

11 And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them.

11 If they are ashamed of all that they have done, make known to them the (h)design of the house, its structure, its (W)exits, its entrances, all its designs, all its statutes(i), and all its laws. And write it (X)in their sight, so that they may observe its whole (j)design and all its statutes and (Y)do them.

11 and they will be ashamed of all that they have done. Reveal(e) the design of the temple to them—its layout with its exits and entrances(X)—its complete design along with all its statutes, design specifications, and laws. Write it down in their sight(Y) so that they may observe its complete design and all its statutes and may carry them out.(Z)

11 If they are ashamed of everything that they've done, you are to reveal to them the design of the Temple, its structure, its exits and entrances, its plans, its ordinances, and all of its regulations. Write it down where they can see it and remember all of its designs and regulations, so they will implement them.

12 This is a regulation of the Temple: The whole area all the way around the top of the mountain is most holy. Indeed, this is a regulation of the Temple.

12 This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house.

12 This is the (k)law of the house: its entire (l)area on the top of the (Z)mountain all around shall be most holy. Behold, this is the (m)law of the house.

12 This is the law of the temple: all its surrounding territory on top of the mountain(AA) will be especially holy. Yes, this is the law of the temple.

12 This is to be the regulation for the Temple: the entire area on top of the mountain is to be considered wholly consecrated. This is to be the law of the Temple."

The Altar

13 These are the measurements of the altar, using royal measurements. The royal measuring stick was twenty-one inches long. The base of the altar was twenty-one inches high and twenty-one inches wide. All around the edge of the altar was a rim measuring nine inches wide. This was the height of the altar:

13 And these are the measures of the altar after the cubits: The cubit is a cubit and an hand breadth; even the bottom shall be a cubit, and the breadth a cubit, and the border thereof by the edge thereof round about shall be a span: and this shall be the higher place of the altar.

13 “And these are the measurements of the (AA)altar by cubits (the (AB)cubit being a cubit and a handbreadth): the (n)base shall be a cubit and the width a cubit, and its border on its edge round about one span; and this shall be the height of the (o)base of the altar.

13 “These are the measurements of the altar(AB) in units of length (each unit being the standard length plus three inches(AC)):(f) the gutter is 21 inches(g) deep and 21 inches wide, with a rim of nine inches(h) around its edge. This is the base(i) of the altar.

13 "Here are the measurements of the altar in cubits that were a cubit and a handbreadth long: its base is a cubit long and a cubit wide, and its border around the edge at one handbreadth is to be the height of the altar.

14 From the base on the ground to the lower ledge it was three and one half feet high, and from the lower ledge to the upper ledge it was seven feet high and twenty-one inches wide.

14 And from the bottom upon the ground even to the lower settle shall be two cubits, and the breadth one cubit; and from the lesser settle even to the greater settle shall be four cubits, and the breadth one cubit.

14 From the base on the ground to the lower (AC)ledge shall be two cubits and the width one cubit; and from the smaller ledge to the larger ledge shall be four cubits and the width (p)one cubit.

14 The distance from the gutter on the ground to the lower ledge is 3½ feet,(j) and the width of the ledge is 21 inches.(k) There are seven feet(l) from the small ledge to the large ledge, whose width is also 21 inches.

14 From the base on the ground to its lower edge is to be two cubits, with its width to be one cubit. From the lesser ledge to the larger edge is to be four cubits. Its width is to be one cubit.

15 The place where the sacrifices were burned was seven feet high. There were four horns above it.

15 So the altar shall be four cubits; and from the altar and upward shall be four horns.

15 The (q)altar hearth shall be four cubits; and from the (r)altar hearth shall extend upwards four (AD)horns.

15 The altar hearth(m) is seven feet(n) high, and four horns(AD) project upward from the hearth.

15 The hearth is to be four cubits high, and four horns are to extend upwards from the hearth.

16 It was twenty-one feet square, wide and long.

16 And the altar shall be twelve cubits long, twelve broad, square in the four squares thereof.

16 Now the (s)altar hearth shall be twelve cubits long by twelve wide, (AE)square in its four sides.

16 The hearth is square, 21 feet(o) long by 21 feet wide.(AE)

16 The hearth is to be twelve cubits long and twelve cubits wide; that is, it will be a four-sided square.

17 The upper ledge was also square. It was twenty-four and one half feet long and twenty-four and one half feet wide. It had a rim all the way around that was ten and one half inches wide. Its base was twenty-one inches. The steps to the altar faced east.

17 And the settle shall be fourteen cubits long and fourteen broad in the four squares thereof; and the border about it shall be half a cubit; and the bottom thereof shall be a cubit about; and his stairs shall look toward the east.

17 The ledge shall be fourteen cubits long by fourteen wide in its four sides, the border around it shall be half a cubit and its base shall be a cubit round about; and its (AF)steps shall (t)(AG)face the east.”

17 The ledge is 24½ feet(p) long by 24½ feet wide, with four equal sides.(AF) The rim all around it is 10½ inches,(q) and its gutter is 21 inches(r) all around it. The altar’s steps face east.”(AG)

17 It is to have a ledge fourteen cubits long by fourteen cubits wide around the four sides. Its border is to be half a cubit and its base is to be a cubit all around, with its steps facing east."

The Consecration Of The Altar

18 The man said: Son of man, this is what the Lord Jehovah says: 'These are the rules for sacrificing burnt offerings and for sprinkling blood on the altar after the altar is built.'

18 And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These are the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings thereon, and to sprinkle blood thereon.

18 And He said to me, “(AH)Son of man, thus says the Lord (u)God, ‘These are the statutes for the altar on the day it is built, to offer (AI)burnt offerings on it and to (AJ)sprinkle blood on it.

18 Then He said to me: “Son of man,(AH) this is what the Lord God says: These are the statutes for the altar on the day it is constructed, so that burnt offerings(AI) may be sacrificed on it and blood may be sprinkled on it:(AJ)

18 Then he told me, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "These are the regulations for the altar, starting the day that it is constructed for presenting burnt offerings and sprinkling blood.

19 Jehovah said: 'Give a young bull to the priests as an offering for sin. These priests are Zadok's descendants. They are men from the tribe of Levi, who can come near me and serve me.

19 And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord GOD, a young bullock for a sin offering.

19 You shall give to the Levitical priests who are from the offspring of (AK)Zadok, who draw (AL)near to Me to minister to Me,’ declares the Lord God, ‘a (AM)young bull for a (AN)sin offering.

19 You are to give a bull from the herd(AK) as a sin offering(AL) to the Levitical priests who are from the offspring of Zadok,(AM) who approach Me in order to serve Me.”(AN) This is the declaration of the Lord God.

19 You are to present to the Levitical priests, Zadok's descendants, who will approach me to serve me, a young bull for a sin offering,' declares the Lord GOD.

20 Take some of the bull's blood, and put it on the altars four horns, on the four corners of the ledge, and on the rim all the way around the altar. When you do this, you will remove sin from the altar and make peace with Jehovah.

20 And thou shalt take of the blood thereof, and put it on the four horns of it, and on the four corners of the settle, and upon the border round about: thus shalt thou cleanse and purge it.

20 You shall take some of its blood and put it on its four (AO)horns and on the four corners of the (AP)ledge and on the border round about; thus you shall (AQ)cleanse it and make atonement for it.

20 “You must take some of its blood and apply it to the four horns(AO) of the altar, the four corners of the ledge, and all around the rim. In this way you will purify the altar and make atonement for it.(AP)

20 You are to take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of its ledge, and on the border that surrounds it, thus cleansing it and making an atonement for it.

21 Take a young bull as an offering for sin, and burn it in the place appointed near the temple, outside the holy place.

21 Thou shalt take the bullock also of the sin offering, and he shall burn it in the appointed place of the house, without the sanctuary.

21 You shall also take the bull for the sin offering, and it shall be (AR)burned in the appointed place of the house, outside the sanctuary.

21 Then you must take away the bull for the sin offering, and it must be burned outside the sanctuary in the place appointed for the temple.(AQ)

21 You are also to present a bull for a sin offering, incinerating it in the appointed place at the Temple, outside the sanctuary.

22 On the second day bring a male goat that has no defects as an offering for sin. Remove sin from the altar as you did with the young bull.'

22 And on the second day thou shalt offer a kid of the goats without blemish for a sin offering; and they shall cleanse the altar, as they did cleanse it with the bullock.

22 ‘On the second day you shall offer a (AS)male goat without blemish for a sin offering, and they shall (AT)cleanse the altar as they cleansed it with the bull.

22 “On the second day you are to present an unblemished male goat as a sin offering. They will purify the altar just as they did with the bull.

22 "The second day following commencement of offerings, you are to offer a male goat without defect for a sin offering to cleanse the altar the same way they cleansed it with the bull.

23 When you finish removing sin offer a young bull and a ram that have no defects.

23 When thou hast made an end of cleansing it, thou shalt offer a young bullock without blemish, and a ram out of the flock without blemish.

23 When you have finished cleansing it, you shall present a (AU)young bull without blemish and a (AV)ram without blemish from the flock.

23 When you have finished the purification, you are to present a young, unblemished bull(AR) and an unblemished ram from the flock.(AS)

23 After you've finished the cleansing, you are to present a young bull without defect and a ram from the flock without defect.

24 Offer them to Jehovah. The priests must throw salt on them and offer them as burnt offerings to Jehovah.

24 And thou shalt offer them before the LORD, and the priests shall cast salt upon them, and they shall offer them up for a burnt offering unto the LORD.

24 You shall present them before the Lord, and the priests shall throw (AW)salt on them, and they shall offer them up as a burnt offering to the Lord.

24 You must present them before the Lord; the priests will throw salt on them and sacrifice them as a burnt offering to the Lord.(AT)

24 You are to present them in the LORD's presence, and the priests are to throw salt on them and then present them as a burnt offering to the LORD.

25 Every day for seven days you must sacrifice a goat, a young bull, and a ram from the flock as an offering for sin. They must be animals that have no defects.

25 Seven days shalt thou prepare every day a goat for a sin offering: they shall also prepare a young bullock, and a ram out of the flock, without blemish.

25 (AX)For seven days you shall prepare daily a goat for a sin offering; also a young bull and a ram from the flock, without blemish, shall be prepared.

25 You will offer a goat for a sin offering each day for seven days.(AU) A young bull and a ram from the flock, both unblemished, must also be offered.

25 "Every day for a week, you are to prepare a goat for a sin offering, a young bull, and a ram from the flock, each without defect.

26 For seven days the priests should pay compensation for wrongdoing and make peace with Jehovah at the altar, purify it, and consecrate it.

26 Seven days shall they purge the altar and purify it; and they shall consecrate themselves.

26 For seven days they shall make atonement for the altar and purify it; so shall they (v)consecrate it.

26 For seven days the priests are to make atonement for the altar and cleanse it. In this way they will consecrate it(s)

26 For a seven day period they are to make atonement for the altar, purifying it and consecrating it.

27 When those days are over, on the eighth day, the priests must sacrifice burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar. Then I will accept them,' declares the Lord Jehovah.

27 And when these days are expired, it shall be, that upon the eighth day, and so forward, the priests shall make your burnt offerings upon the altar, and your peace offerings; and I will accept you, saith the Lord GOD.

27 When they have completed the days, it shall be that on the (AY)eighth day and onward, the priests shall (w)offer your burnt offerings on the altar, and your (AZ)peace offerings; and I will (BA)accept you,’ declares the Lord God.”

27 and complete the days of purification. Then on the eighth day(AV) and afterward, the priests will offer your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar, and I will accept you.”(AW) This is the declaration of the Lord God.

27 When they will have completed this period, starting the next day, the priests are to offer your burnt offerings on the altar, along with your peace offerings, and I will accept you,' declares the Lord GOD."
