And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

But Abram said to the king of Sodom: I have sworn to Jehovah, God Most High, maker of heaven and earth:

A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes its owner. He prospers in everything he does.

A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.

A gift in secret pacifies anger. A bribe behind the back provokes strong anger.

But the noble man devises noble plans. He stands firm for what is honorable.

They answered: Now we know that Jehovah is with you. We think that there should be a solemn agreement between us. We want you to promise

Now, let us make an agreement (covenant) and let it stand as a witness between you and me.

Jonathan made a covenant with David. He loved him as himself.

He took one of the royal family and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. He also took away the mighty of the land,

without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, and unmerciful.

Brothers, I speak like a man speaks: Though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void, or adds to it.

They made a covenant at Beer-sheba. Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, arose and returned to the land of the Philistines.
