Many ask favors of the prince. Every man is a friend of a person who gives gifts.

A gift in secret pacifies anger. A bribe behind the back provokes strong anger.

Judah and the land of Israel were your traders. They traded with the wheat of Minnith. Cakes, honey, oil and balm were paid for your merchandise.

Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician (healer) there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?

The sons of Dedan were your traders. Many coastlands were your market; ivory tusks and ebony they brought as your payment.
