Another Symbolic Marriage

1 Then the Lord said to me, “Go again; show love to a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress,(A) just as the Lord loves the Israelites though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.”(B)

1 Then the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a (a)woman who is loved by her (b)husband, yet an adulteress, even (A)as the Lord loves the sons of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin (B)cakes.”

1 Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.

1 Then the LORD told me: "Go love your wife again, even though she is being loved by another and is committing adultery. Love her the same way the LORD loves the people of Israel, even though they look to other gods and love raisin cakes."

1 Then the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman ((a)Gomer) who is beloved by her husband and yet is an adulteress, even as the Lord loves the (b)children of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love the raisin cakes [used in the feasts in pagan worship].”

2 So I bought her for 15 shekels of silver and five bushels of barley.(a)(b)(C)

2 So I (C)bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a (c)half of barley.

2 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:

2 So I bought her back for myself for fifteen pieces of silver and one and a half omers of barley.

2 So I bought her for myself for (c)fifteen pieces of silver and a homer and a half of barley [the price of a common slave].

3 I said to her, “You must live with me many days. Don’t be promiscuous or belong to any man, and I will act the same way toward you.”

3 Then I said to her, “You shall (D)stay with me for many days. You shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a (d)man; so I will also be toward you.”

3 And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.

3 I told her, "You will remain with me a long time, you won't be promiscuous, you won't be involved with any man, and I'll do the same."

3 And I said to her, “You shall stay with me for many days. You shall not play the prostitute nor shall you have a man; so I will also be toward you [until you have proved your faithfulness].”

4 For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince,(D) without sacrifice(E) or sacred pillar,(F) and without ephod(G) or household idols.(H)

4 For the sons of Israel will remain for many days (E)without king or prince, (F)without sacrifice or sacred (G)pillar and without (H)ephod or (e)(I)household idols.

4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:

4 Likewise, the people of Israel will dwell a long time without a king, without a prince, without sacrifice, without sacred pillars, and with neither ephod nor teraphim.

4 For the sons of Israel will remain for many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or [idolatrous] pillar, and without (d)ephod or teraphim (household idols).

5 Afterward, the people of Israel will return(I) and seek the Lord their God and David their king.(J) They will come with awe to the Lord(K) and to His goodness in the last days.

5 Afterward the sons of Israel will (J)return and seek the Lord their God and (K)David their king; and (L)they will come trembling to the Lord and to His goodness in the last days.

5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.

5 Afterward, the people of Israel will return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They will come in awe to the LORD and to his goodness in the last days.

5 Afterward the sons of Israel will return [in deep repentance] and seek the Lord their God and [seek from the line of] David their king [the King of kings—the Messiah]; and they will come trembling to the Lord and to His goodness and blessing in the last days.(A)
