Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

I am a brother to jackals and a companion of ostriches.

My heart has been stricken like grass and has withered away. In fact I forget to eat my bread.

We all growl like bears. We coo like doves. We hope for justice, but there is none. We hope for salvation, but it is far from us.

Some will escape to the mountains like doves frightened from the valleys. All of them will moan over their sins.

It is decreed: she is uncovered! She is carried away and her handmaids moan like the sound of doves, beating on their chests.

I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry. My eyes fail, looking for my God.

My eyes fail with longing for your word, while I say: When will you comfort me?

Our eyes are still wasting away in looking for our false help. We watch for a nation unable to give salvation.

Be surety for your servant for good and do not let the arrogant oppress me.

Answer me quickly, O Jehovah for my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will become like those who go down to the pit.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
