A voice of one calling: In the wilderness prepare the way for Jehovah. Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Behold, I send my messenger! He will prepare the way before me. Seek Jehovah! He will suddenly come to his Temple along with the messenger of the covenant. He is one you desire, behold, he comes, said Jehovah of Hosts.

He said: I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness. Isaiah the prophet said: 'Make straight the way of Jehovah (YHWH).' (Isaiah 40:3)

Behold! I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible Day of Jehovah comes.

Sing to God, sing praises to his name: extol him who rides upon the heavens by his name, Jehovah, and rejoice before him.

I am going to do something new. It is already happening. Do you recognize it? I will clear a way in the desert. I will make rivers on dry land.

One will say: 'Heap it up! Heap it up! Prepare the way; Take the stumbling block out of the way of my people.'

The prophet Isaiah wrote: I am sending my messenger ahead of you to prepare your way.

Jehovah will utterly destroy the tongue of the Sea of Egypt. He will wave his hand, his mighty Spirit, over the (Euphrates) River. He will strike it into seven streams and make men walk over on dry land.

There will be a highway there, called: The Road of Holiness. No sinner will ever travel that road. No fools will mislead those who follow it.

I will make all my mountains a road. My highways will be raised up.

Pass through! Pass through the gates! Prepare a way for the people! Build up! Build up the highway! Clear away the stones! Raise a flag (standard) for the people!

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming:

Great numbers of the children of Israel will return to Jehovah their God because of him. (1 Samuel 7:3)

Your child will be called the prophet of the Most High. You will go in advance of Jehovah God to make his ways ready. (Malachi 3:1)

This was in the time when Annas and Caiaphas were chief priests. The word of God was delivered to John the son of Zechariah. He was in the wilderness.
