It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation! Nor will the Arab pitch his tent there. Nor will shepherds take their flocks there.

I will turn Babylon into a marsh. Porcupines will live there. I will sweep Babylon with a broom that will sweep everything away. I, the Sovereign Lord Jehovah have spoken.

He guards the feet of his holy ones. The wicked are silenced in darkness. Man will not prevail by strength.

O Jehovah, I have called on you, so do not let me be put to shame. Let wicked people be put to shame. Let them be silent in the grave.

Cease your endeavors and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be glorified in the earth!

I will take from them the sounds of joy and happiness, the sounds of brides and grooms, the sound of mills, and the light of lamps.

She sits alone. She was a town full of people! Once great among the nations she has become like a widow! She who was a princess among the countries has come under the yoke of forced labor!

Jehovah is in his Holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before him.

Be silent, all flesh, before Jehovah, for he is aroused out of his holy dwelling.

The king asked why did he not wear proper clothes for the wedding? But the guest had no excuse.

They are wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame. They are wandering stars, for which the black darkness has been reserved forever.

A mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and hurled it into the sea. He said: With violence the great city Babylon will be thrown down, and it will not be found any longer.

You said: 'I will be a queen for a very long time!' You did not consider these things or remember their outcome.

Babylon, the beauty (honor) (glory) of kingdoms, the majesty of Chaldean pride, will be overthrew by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.

You will mock the king of Babylon with this saying: How the tyrant has come to an end! How his attacks have come to an end!

You, O king, are king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory.

So he carried me away in spirit to the wilderness. I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet-colored beast. The beast was full of names of blasphemy. It had seven heads and ten horns.

To the extent she glorified herself and lived sensuously, to that extent give her much torment and sorrow. She says in her heart: 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and I shall see no sorrow.'
