The word of Jehovah came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram; I am your shield. Your reward shall be very great.

Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.

I took Abraham, your ancestor, from the land across the Euphrates and led him through the whole land of Canaan. I gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,

What shall we say about Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh?

Jehovah said to Abram: Leave your country, your people, and your father's household, and go to the land I will show you.

After Lot had parted from Abram, Jehovah said to Abram: Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.

The word of Jehovah came to him: This man shall not be your heir. No one but your very own issue shall be your heir.

I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities.

By now Abraham was old, and Jehovah had blessed him in every way.

You are Jehovah, the true God, who took Abram and made him yours, guiding him from Ur of the Chaldees, and gave him the name of Abraham;

Son of man, those who live in the ruined cities in Israel are saying: 'Abraham was only one person, and he was given the land. But we are many. Certainly the land has been given to us.'

So then those who have faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.

By faith, when Abraham was called, he obeyed. He went to a place that he was to receive for an inheritance. He went even though he did not know where he was going.
