Isaiah's Commission

1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple.

1 In the year of (A)King Uzziah’s death (B)I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.

1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

1 In the year that King Uzziah(A) died, I saw the Lord(B) seated on a high and lofty(C) throne,(D) and His robe(a) filled the temple.

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon his throne, high and exalted. The train of his robe filled the Temple.

2 Above him stood the seraphim: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

2 Seraphim stood above Him, (C)each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

2 Seraphim(b) were standing above Him; each one had six wings:(E) with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.(F)

2 The seraphim stood above him. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he was flying.

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is Jehovah of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

3 And one called out to another and said,(D)Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts,The (a)(E)whole earth is full of His glory.”

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

3 And one called to another:Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; His glory(G) fills the whole earth.(H)

3 They kept on calling to each other: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of the Heavenly Armies! The whole earth is full of his glory!"

4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

4 And the (b)foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the (c)(F)temple was filling with smoke.

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

4 The foundations of the doorways shook(I) at the sound of their voices, and the temple was filled with smoke.

4 The foundations of the thresholds quaked at the sound of those who kept calling out, and the Temple was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

5 Then I said,(G)Woe is me, for I am ruined!Because I am a man of (H)unclean lips,And I live among a (I)people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the (J)King, the Lord of hosts.”

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

5 Then I said:Woe is me(J) for I am ruined(c)because I am a man of unclean lipsand live among a people of unclean lips,(K)and because my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts.

5 "How terrible it will be for me!" I cried, "because I am ruined! I'm a man with unclean lips, and I live among a people with unclean lips! And my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of the Heavenly Armies!"

6 Then flew one of the seraphim unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the (K)altar with tongs.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken from the altar(L) with tongs.

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, carrying a burning coal in his hand that he had taken from the altar with tongs.

7 and he touched my mouth with it, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin forgiven.

7 He (L)touched my mouth with it and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; and (M)your iniquity is taken away and your sin is (d)forgiven.”

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

7 He touched my mouth(M) with it and said:Now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removedand your sin is atoned for.(N)

7 He touched my mouth and said, "Look! Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt is taken away, and your sins atoned for."

Isaiah's Commission From The Lord

8 And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me.

8 Then I heard the (N)voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then (O)I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying:Who should I send?Who will go for Us?I said:Here I am. Send me.

8 Then I heard the voice of the LORD as he was asking, "Whom will I send? Who will go for us?" "Here I am!" I replied. "Send me."

9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

9 He said, “Go, and tell this people:‘Keep on (P)listening, but do not perceive;Keep on looking, but do not understand.’

9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

9 And He replied:Go! Say to these people:Keep listening, but do not understand;(O)keep looking, but do not perceive.

9 "Go!" he responded. "Tell this people: ""Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.'

10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they sea with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn again, and be healed.

10 (Q)Render the hearts of this people (e)(R)insensitive,Their ears (f)dull,And their eyes (g)dim,(S)Otherwise they might see with their eyes,Hear with their ears,Understand with their hearts,And return and be healed.”

10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

10 Dull the minds(d) of these people;deafen their ears and blind their eyes;otherwise they might see with their eyesand hear with their ears, understand with their minds, turn back, and be healed.(P)

10 Dull the mind of this people, deafen their ears, and blind their eyes. By doing so, they won't see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their minds, turn back, and be healed."

11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until cities be waste without inhabitant, and houses without man, and the land become utterly waste,

11 Then I said, “Lord, (T)how long?” And He answered,“Until (U)cities are devastated and without inhabitant,Houses are without peopleAnd the land is utterly desolate,

11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,

11 Then I said, “Until when, Lord?”(Q) And He replied:Until cities lie in ruins without inhabitants,(R)houses are without people, the land is ruined and desolate,

11 Then I asked, "For how long, LORD?" He replied: "Until cities lie waste, without inhabitants, and houses without people; and the land becomes utterly desolate.

12 and Jehovah have removed men far away, and the forsaken places be many in the midst of the land.

12 “The Lord has (V)removed men far away,And the (h)(W)forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.

12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.

12 and the Lord drives the people far away, leaving great emptiness in the land.

12 Until the LORD removes people far away, and there are many empty places in the middle of the land.

13 And if there be yet a tenth in it, it also shall in turn be eaten up: as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stock remaineth, when they are felled; so the holy seed is the stock thereof.

13 “Yet there will be a tenth portion in it,And it will again be subject to burning,Like a terebinth or an (X)oakWhose stump remains when it is felled. The (Y)holy seed is its stump.”

13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

13 Though a tenth will remain in the land,it will be burned again.Like the terebinth or the oakthat leaves a stump when felled, the holy seed(S) is the stump.(T)

13 Even though a tenth of its people remain in it, it will once again be burned, like a terebinth or an oak tree, the stump of which, though the tree has been felled, still contains holy seed."
