Have you not just now called to me, 'My father, you are the friend of my youth--

"In those days and in that time, declares the LORD, the people of Israel and the people of Judah shall come together, weeping as they come, and they shall seek the LORD their God.

Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy!

He strove with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor. He met God at Bethel, and there God spoke with us--

"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.

Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his pleas for mercy, and for your own sake, O Lord,make your face to shine upon your sanctuary, which is desolate.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

"Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. "Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.

For you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.

But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Pray then like this: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty."
