He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran. They set out for the land of Canaan and soon arrived there.

But the land could not support them while they stayed together. Their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together.

Then all their livestock and everything else they own will be ours. So let us agree that they can live among us.

He made towns for himself. He gathered much property in flocks and herds: for God had given him great wealth.

Seven

Jehovah blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the first. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys.

He treated Abram well for her sake. Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, menservants and maidservants, and camels.

The booty that remained from the spoil the men of war had plundered was six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,

The blessing of Jehovah makes rich and he adds no grief to it.

He also built fortified towers in the open country and dug many cisterns, because he had large herds of livestock in the western foothills and plains. Because he loved farming, he encouraged the people to plant vineyards in the hill country and to farm the fertile land.

The nobles refrained from talking, and laid their hands on their mouths.

Men

When the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites and the Amalekites along with the desert tribes attacked them.

The Midianites, the Amalekites, and the desert tribesmen were spread out in the valley like a swarm of locusts. They had so many camels they could not be counted. They were as plentiful as there are grains of sand on the seashore.

Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor. Their armies were with them, about fifteen thousand men all that were left of all the armies of the children of the east. They had already lost a hundred and twenty thousand swordsmen.

Solomon was wiser than the wise men of the East or the wise men of Egypt.

Of the east

While Abraham was still alive, he gave gifts to the sons of Hagar and Keturah. He also sent their sons to live in the east far from his son Isaac.

Jacob continued on his trip and arrived at the land in the east.

Balaam delivered this message: Balak brought me from Aram. The king of Moab summoned me from the eastern mountains. Come and curse Jacob for me, he said. 'Come and condemn Israel.
