When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

When I think: 'My bed will comfort me, and I will try to forget my misery with sleep,

You say that night is day. Light has nearly become darkness.

The night racks my bones, and the pain that eats at me takes no rest.

Your hearts will pound with fear at everything you see. Every morning you will wish for evening. Every evening you will wish for morning.

I am worn out from groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.

You hold my eyelids open. I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

I wait for Jehovah more than the watchmen for the morning. Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.

I fade away like a lengthening shadow. I have been shaken off like a grasshopper.

O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will build you with stones of turquoise, your foundations with sapphires.

Your hearts will pound with fear at everything you see. Every morning you will wish for evening. Every evening you will wish for morning.
