Jesus answered him, "Wilt thou give thy life for my sake? Verily, verily I say unto thee, the cock shall not crow, till thou have denied me thrice."

Pride goeth before destruction; and after a proud stomach there followeth a fall.

And Jesus said unto him, "Verily I say unto thee this day even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice."

And Peter was beneath in the palace, and there came one of the wenches of the highest priest;

He that trusteth in his own heart, is a fool; but he that dealeth wisely, shall be safe.

After pride cometh a fall; but a lowly spirit bringeth great worship.

Jesus said unto him, "Verily I say unto thee, that this same night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice."

Peter sat without in the palace, and a damsel came to him, saying, "Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee."

And he said, "I tell thee Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, till thou have thrice denied that thou knowest me."

And one of the wenches, as he sat, beheld him by the fire and set good eyesight on him, and said, "This same was also with him."

But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple which was known unto the high priest, and spake to the damsel that kept the door, and brought in Peter.

Simon Peter stood and warmed himself, and they said unto him, "Art not thou also one of his disciples?" He denied it, and said, "I am not."

Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.
