Summary

The third

Jesus answered him, "Wilt thou give thy life for my sake? Verily, verily I say unto thee, the cock shall not crow, till thou have denied me thrice."
Peter denied it again: and immediately the cock crew.
And after a while, came unto him they that stood by, and said unto Peter, "Surely thou art even one of them, for thy speech betrayeth thee."
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Be fervent therefore and repent.

Grieved

Then said she unto Elijah, "What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? Art thou come unto me, that my sin should be thought on and my son slain?"
For he doth not plague, and cast out the children of men from his heart.
And Peter remembered the words of Jesus, which he said unto him, "Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice": and went out at the doors and wept bitterly.
And again the cock crew. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus said unto him. "Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice," and began to weep.
And the Lord turned back and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the words of the Lord, how he said unto him, "Before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice."
For in great affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears: not to make you sorry, but that ye might perceive the love which I have most specially unto you.
Wherefore though I made you sorry with a letter I repent not: though I did repent. For I perceive that that same Epistle made you sorry though it were but for a season.
And grieve not the holy spirit of God, by whom ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
in the which time ye shall rejoice, though now for a season - if need require - ye are in heaviness, through manifold temptations,

Lord

but Jesus put not himself in their hands, because he knew all men,
Now know we that thou understandest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee any question. Therefore believe we that thou camest from God."
Then Jesus, knowing all things that should come on him, went forth and said unto them, "Whom seek ye?"
"Even I the LORD search out the ground of the heart, and try the reins, and reward every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his counsels."
And they prayed, saying, "Thou Lord which knowest the hearts of all men, show whether thou hast chosen of these two,
And God which knoweth the heart, bare them witness, and gave unto them the holy ghost, even as he did unto us;
And I will kill her children with death. And all the congregations shall know that I am he which searches the reins and hearts. And I will give unto everyone of you according to your works.

Thou knowest that

When they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon the son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?" He said unto him, "Yea Lord, thou knowest, that I love thee." He said unto him, "Feed my lambs."
"The mighty God Jehovah, he knoweth, and Israel shall know if; it be to rebel or transgress against the LORD, then the LORD save us not this day.
I know my God, that thou provest the heart and hast pleasure in plainness. And in plainness of mine heart I have willingly given all this. And now I see thy people, which are here in gladness to offer willingly to thee.
Doth not he see my ways, and tell all my goings?
The LORD shall judge the people; give sentence with me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to the innocence that is in me.
Thou hast proved and visited mine heart in the night season; thou hast tried me, and shalt find no wickedness in me, for I am utterly purposed that my mouth shall not offend.
Our rejoicing is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in singleness of heart and with godly pureness - and not in fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God - we have had our conversation in the world, and most of all to you-wards.
