Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

The deaconesses too must be serious, not gossips; they must be temperate and perfectly trustworthy.

lacking in love for kinsmen, irreconcilable, slanderers, having no self-control, savage, lacking in love for the good,

the older women, too, to be reverent in their deportment, and not to be slanderers or slaves to heavy drinking, but to be teachers of what is right,

So once for all get rid of all malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all sorts of slander,

but they could not, although many false witnesses came forward to testify. At last two men came forward

and said, "I did wrong in turning an innocent man over to death." But they said, "What is that to us? You must see to that yourself."

So they instigated men to say, "We have heard him speaking abusive words against Moses and God."

But, not to detain you too long, I beg you in your kindness to give us a brief hearing.
