“How can I know this?” Zechariah asked the angel. “For I am an old man, and my wife is well along in years.”

Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a hundred-year-old man? Can Sarah, a ninety-year-old woman, give birth?”

But he said, “Lord God, how can I know that I will possess it?”

Mary asked the angel, “How can this be, since I have not been intimate with a man?”

So she laughed to herself: “After I have become shriveled up and my lord is old, will I have delight?”

But Moses replied, “I’m in the middle of a people with 600,000 foot soldiers, yet You say, ‘I will give them meat, and they will eat for a month.’

Then Gideon said to God, “If You will deliver Israel by my hand, as You said,

Then the captain, the king’s right-hand man, responded to the man of God, “Look, even if the Lord were to make windows in heaven, could this really happen?”

Elisha announced, “You will in fact see it with your own eyes, but you won’t eat any of it.”

And Hezekiah had asked, “What is the sign that I will go up to the Lord’s temple?”

But they had no children because Elizabeth could not conceive, and both of them were well along in years.

He considered his own body to be already dead (since he was about 100 years old) and also considered the deadness of Sarah’s womb, without weakening in the faith.
