Luke 3:15

As the people were in expectation, and all men questioned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he were the Christ,

Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"

You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but I have been sent before him.

So the Jews gathered round him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."

He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."
