1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
1 Soon afterwards, He began going around from one city and village to another, (A)proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him,
1 Soon afterward He was traveling from one town and village to another,(A) preaching and telling the good news of the kingdom of God.(B) The Twelve were with Him,
1 After this, Jesus traveled from one city and village to another, preaching and spreading the good news about God's kingdom. The Twelve were with him,

3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.

The Parable Of The Sower
4 And when a large multitude gathered together, and those coming to him from each city, he spoke by a parable.
4 And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
4 (F)When a large crowd was coming together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a parable:
4 As a large crowd was gathering, and people were flocking to Him from every town, He said in a parable:(E)
4 Now while a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from every city, he said in a parable:
5 The man who sows went forth to sow his seed. And during his sowing, some fell by the way, and it was trampled, and the birds of the sky devoured it.
5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
5 “The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the (a)air ate it up.
5 “A sower went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the sky ate it up.
5 "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some seeds fell along the path, were trampled on, and birds from the sky ate them up.
6 And another fell on the rock, and having grown, it withered away because of not having moisture.
6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
6 Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.
6 Other seed fell on the rock; when it sprang up, it withered, since it lacked moisture.
6 Others fell on stony ground, and as soon as they came up, they dried up because they had no moisture.
7 And another fell amidst the thorns, and having grown together, the thorns choked it.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
7 Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out.
7 Other seed fell among thorns; the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.
7 Others fell among thorn bushes, and the thorn bushes grew with them and choked them.
8 And another fell on the good ground, and having grown it produced fruit a hundredfold. As he said these things, he called out, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
8 Other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great.” As He said these things, He would call out, “(G)He who has ears to hear, (b)let him hear.”
8 Still other seed fell on good ground; when it sprang up, it produced a crop: 100 times what was sown.”(F) As He said this, He called out, “Anyone who has ears to hear should listen!”(G)
8 But others fell on good soil, and when they came up, they produced 100 times as much as was planted." As he said this, he called out, "Let the person who has ears to hear, listen!"
The Reason For The Parables
10 And he said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the others in parables, so that seeing they would not see, and hearing they would not understand.
10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
10 And He said, “(I)To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is in parables, so that (J)seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.
10 So He said, “The secrets of the kingdom of God have been given for you(I) to know, but to the rest it is in parables, so thatLooking they may not see,and hearing they may not understand.(J)(a)
10 So he said, "You have been given knowledge about the secrets of the kingdom of God. But to others they are given in parables, so that "they might look but not see, and they might listen but not understand.'"
The Parable Of The Sower Interpreted
12 And those by the way are those who hear, then the devil comes, and takes away the word from their heart, lest having believed, they would be saved.
12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
12 Those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved.
12 The seed along the path are those who have heard and then the Devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
12 The ones on the path are the people who listen, but then the Devil comes and takes the word away from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
13 And those on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy. And these have no root, who believe for a time, and withdraw in time of trial.
13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
13 Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; (c)they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.
13 And the seed on the rock are those who, when they hear, welcome the word with joy. Having no root, these believe for a while and depart in a time of testing.(M)
13 The ones on the stony ground are the people who joyfully welcome the word when they hear it. But since they don't have any roots, they believe for a while, but in a time of testing they fall away.
14 And that which fell in the thorns, these are those who heard, and as they go they are choked by cares and wealth and pleasures of life, and do not bring to maturity.
14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
14 The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
14 As for the seed that fell among thorns, these are the ones who, when they have heard, go on their way and are choked with worries, riches, and pleasures of life,(N) and produce no mature fruit.
14 The ones that fell among the thorn bushes are the people who listen, but as they go on their way they are choked by the worries, wealth, and pleasures of life, and their fruit doesn't mature.
15 But those in the good ground, these are those who in an good and right heart, having heard the word, hold it firm, and bring forth fruit in perseverance.
15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
15 But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with (d)perseverance.
15 But the seed in the good ground—these are the ones who,(c) having heard the word with an honest and good heart, hold on to it and by enduring,(O) bear fruit.
15 But the ones on the good soil are the people who hear the word but also hold on to it with good and honest hearts, producing a crop through endurance."
The Parable Of The Lamp
16 And no man, having lit a lamp, covers it with a container, or places it under a bed, but places it on a lampstand, so that those who enter in may see the light.
16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
16 “Now (L)no one after lighting a lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see the light.
16 “No one, after lighting a lamp,(P) covers it with a basket or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand so that those who come in may see its light.(Q)
16 "No one lights a lamp and hides it under a bowl or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a lamp stand so that those who come in will see the light.
17 For there is no secret that will not become visible, nor hid, that will not be known and come to be visible.
17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
17 (M)For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
17 For nothing is concealed that won’t be revealed, and nothing hidden that won’t be made known and come to light.(R)
17 There is nothing hidden that won't be revealed, and there is nothing secret that won't become known and come to light.
18 Notice therefore how ye hear. For whoever has, to him will be given, and whoever has not, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.
18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
18 So take care how you listen; (N)for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he (e)thinks he has shall be taken away from him.”
18 Therefore take care how you listen. For whoever has, more will be given to him;(S) and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”
18 So pay attention to how you listen, because to the one who has something, more will be given. However, from the one who doesn't have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him."
Jesus' Mother And Brothers
19 And his mother and brothers came to him, and they could not come near him because of the crowd.
19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
19 (O)And His mother and brothers came to Him, and they were unable to get to Him because of the crowd.
19 Then His mother and brothers(T) came to Him,(U) but they could not meet with Him because of the crowd.
19 His mother and his brothers came to him, but they couldn't get near him because of the crowd.
20 And it was reported to him, saying, Thy mother and thy brothers stand outside, desiring to see thee.
20 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
20 And it was reported to Him, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wishing to see You.”
20 He was told, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see You.”
20 Jesus was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and want to see you."
21 But having answered, he said to them, My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.
21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
21 But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these (P)who hear the word of God and do it.”
21 But He replied to them, “My mother and My brothers are those who hear and do the word of God.”(V)
21 But he answered those people, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear a message from God and heed it."
Calming Of A Storm
22 Now it came to pass on one of those days, that he entered into a boat, also his disciples. And he said to them, Let us pass through to the other side of the lake. And they launched forth,
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
22 (Q)Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side of (R)the lake.” So they launched out.
22 One day He and His disciples got into a boat,(W) and He told them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.”(X) So they set out,
22 One day, Jesus and his disciples got into a boat. He told them, "Let's cross to the other side of the lake." So they started out.
23 but as they sailed he began to asleep. And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were filling up, and were in peril.
23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
23 But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on (S)the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger.
23 and as they were sailing He fell asleep. Then a fierce windstorm came down on the lake; they were being swamped and were in danger.
23 Now as they were sailing, Jesus fell asleep. A violent storm swept over the lake, and they were taking on water and were in great danger.
24 And having approached, they awoke him, saying, Master, master, we are perishing. And having risen, he rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and it became calm.
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
24 They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, “(T)Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and (U)rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and (f)it became calm.
24 They came and woke Him up, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to die!” Then He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves. So they ceased, and there was a calm.(Y)
24 So his disciples went to him, woke him up, and kept telling him, "Master! Master! We're going to die!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves. They stopped, and there was calm.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And having feared, they wondered, saying to each other, Who then is this man, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?
25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
25 And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?”
25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?”They were fearful and amazed, asking one another, “Who can this be?(d)(Z) He commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey Him!”
25 Then he asked the disciples, "Where's your faith?" Frightened and amazed, they asked one another, "Who is this man? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him!"
A Demon-Possessed Gerasene Healed
27 And when he came forth upon the land, a certain man met him out of the city, who had demons of a considerable time. And he wore no clothing, and did not dwell in a house, but in the sepulchers.
27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
27 And when He came out onto the land, He was met by a man from the city who was possessed with demons; and who had not put on any clothing for a long time, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs.
27 When He got out on land, a demon-possessed man from the town met Him. For a long time he had worn no clothes and did not stay in a house but in the tombs.
27 When Jesus stepped out on the shore, a man from the city met him. This man was controlled by demons and had not worn clothes for a long time. He did not live in a house but in the tombs.
28 And when he saw Jesus, having cried out, he fell down before him. And in a great voice he said, What is with me and with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I beseech thee, do not torment me.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
28 Seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, “(g)(W)What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of (X)the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me.”
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out,(AB) fell down before Him, and said in a loud voice, “What do You have to do with me,(f)(AC) Jesus, You Son of the Most High God?(AD) I beg You, don’t torment me!”
28 When he saw Jesus, he screamed, fell down in front of him, and cried out in a loud voice, "What do you want from me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you not to torture me!"
29 For he commanded the unclean spirit to come out from the man, for many times it had seized him. And he was bound with chains and shackles, and guarded. And breaking the bonds apart, he was driven by the demon into the desolate regi
29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him many times; and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, and yet he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert.
29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was guarded, bound by chains and shackles, he would snap the restraints and be driven by the demon into deserted places.
29 because Jesus was in the process of ordering the unclean spirit to come out of the man. On many occasions the unclean spirit had seized the man, and though he was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles, he would break the chains and be driven by the demon into deserted places.
30 And Jesus demanded him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion, because many demons were entered into him.
30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
30 And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “(Y)Legion”; for many demons had entered him.
30 Jesus asked the man, "What's your name?"
31 And they entreated him that he would not command them to to out into the abyss.
31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
31 He answered, "Legion," because many demons had gone into him. Then the demons began begging Jesus not to order them to go into the bottomless pit.
32 Now a herd of considerable swine was there feeding on the mountain, and they implored him that he would allow them to enter into those. And he allowed them.
32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
32 Now there was a herd of many swine feeding there on the mountain; and the demons implored Him to permit them to enter (h)the swine. And He gave them permission.
32 A large herd of pigs was there, feeding on the hillside. The demons begged Him to permit them to enter the pigs, and He gave them permission.
32 Now a large herd of pigs was grazing there on the hillside. So the demons begged Jesus to let them go into those pigs, and he consented to that.
33 And the demons having come out from the man, they entered into the swine. And the herd stampeded down the slope into the lake, and were drowned.
33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
33 And the demons came out of the man and entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into (AA)the lake and was drowned.
33 The demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.
33 Then the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down a steep slope into the lake and drowned.
34 And when those who tended them saw what happened, they fled and reported it in the city and in the fields.
34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
34 When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran away and reported it in the city and out in the country.
34 When the men who tended them saw what had happened, they ran off and reported it in the town and in the countryside.
34 Now when those who had been taking care of the pigs saw what had happened, they ran away and reported it in the city and in the countryside.
35 And they came out to see what happened. And they came to Jesus, and found the man, from whom the demons had gone out, sitting near the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
35 The people went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down (AB)at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they became frightened.
35 Then people went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man the demons had departed from, sitting at Jesus’ feet,(AG) dressed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
35 So the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind, they were frightened.
36 And also those who saw it informed them how the man who was demon-possessed was saved.
36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
36 Those who had seen it reported to them how the man who was (AC)demon-possessed had been (i)made well.
36 The people who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been healed.
37 And the whole multitude of the region around the Gadarenes besought him to depart from them, because they were gripped by great fear. And he, having embarked into the boat, returned.
37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.
37 And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear; and He got into a boat and returned.
37 Then all the people of the Gerasene region(g) asked Him to leave them,(AI) because they were gripped by great fear. So getting into the boat, He returned.
37 Then all the people from the region surrounding the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were terrified. So he got into a boat and started back.
38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him to be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
38 (AD)But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might (j)accompany Him; but He sent him away, saying,
38 The man from whom the demons had departed kept begging Him to be with Him. But He sent him away and said,
38 Now the man from whom the demons had gone out kept begging Jesus to let him go with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 Return to thy house, and relate everything God did for thee. And he departed, proclaiming throughout the whole city how many things Jesus did for him.
39 Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
39 “Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.” So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.
39 “Go back to your home, and tell all that God has done for you.” And off he went, proclaiming throughout the town all that Jesus had done for him.
39 "Go home and tell what God has done for you." So the man left and kept proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
A Woman Healed And A Daughter Raised
40 And it came to pass during Jesus returning, the multitude welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.

40 When Jesus came back, the crowd welcomed him, because everyone was expecting him.
41 And behold, there came a man whose name was Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And having fallen down near Jesus' feet, he besought him to come into his house,
41 And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:
41 (AF)And there came a man named Jairus, and he was an (l)(AG)official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus’ feet, and began to implore Him to come to his house;
41 Just then, a man named Jairus came. He was a leader of the synagogue.(AL) He fell down at Jesus’ feet and pleaded with Him to come to his house,
41 Just then a synagogue leader by the name of Jairus arrived. He fell at Jesus' feet and kept begging him to come to his home,
42 because there was with him an only begotten daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But during his going the multitudes thronged him.
42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
42 for he had an (m)only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But as He went, the crowds were pressing against Him.
42 because he had an only daughter(AM) about 12 years old, and she was at death’s door.(h)While He was going, the crowds were nearly crushing Him.(AN)
42 because his only daughter, who was about twelve years old, was dying. While Jesus was on his way, the crowds continued to press in on him.
43 And a woman being with an issue of blood for twelve years, who, although she spent her entire living on physicians, was unable to be healed by any,
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,

44 having come from behind, she touched the border of his garment. And immediately the issue of her blood stayed.
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
44 came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His (n)cloak, and immediately her hemorrhage stopped.
44 She came up behind Jesus and touched the tassel of his garment, and her bleeding stopped at once.
45 And Jesus said, Who is he who touched me? But when they all denied, Peter and those with him, said, Master, the multitudes come together and crowd thee, and thou say, Who is he who touched me?
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
45 And Jesus said, “Who is the one who touched Me?” And while they were all denying it, Peter said, “(AH)Master, the (o)people are crowding and pressing in on You.”
45 “Who touched Me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter(j) said, “Master,(AR) the crowds are hemming You in and pressing against You.”(k)
45 Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" While everyone was denying it, Peter and those who were with him said, "Master, the crowds are surrounding you and pressing in on you."
