And at that feast he released to them one prisoner, whomever they desired.

But you have a custom that I should release one to you at the Passover. Then do you desire that I release to you the king of the Jews?

You know that after two days the Passover comes, and the Son of Man is betrayed to be crucified.

But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

Now at that feast the governor was accustomed to release to the people a prisoner, whomever they desired.

Therefore I will chastise Him and release Him.

Then he delivered Him up to them that He might be crucified. And they took Jesus and led Him away.

But after two years Felix welcomed a successor, Porcius Festus. And wishing to show a favor to the Jews, Felix left Paul bound.

But Festus, wanting to please the Jews, answered Paul and said, Will you go up to Jerusalem and be judged there before me about these things?
