He asked them, "Are you so ignorant? Don't you know that nothing that goes into a person from the outside can make him unclean?

You are not to eat anything that crawls on its belly, anything that walks on four legs, anything that has many legs, or any of the swarming creatures that swarm the land, because they're detestable.

But Peter said, "Absolutely not, Lord, for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean!"

But I replied, "Absolutely not, Lord, for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth!'

Instead, we should write to them to keep away from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from anything strangled, and from blood.

For God's kingdom does not consist of food and drink, but of righteousness, peace, and joy produced by the Holy Spirit.

Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without raising any question about it on the grounds of conscience,

They will try to stop people from marrying and from eating certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

Everything is clean to those who are clean, but nothing is clean to those who are corrupt and unbelieving. Indeed, their very way of thinking and their consciences have been corrupted.

since they deal only with food, drink, and various washings, which are required for the body until the time when things would be set right.

Stop being carried away by all kinds of unusual teachings, for it is good that the heart be strengthened by grace, not by food laws that have never helped those who follow them.

Then he continued, "It's what comes out of a person that makes a person unclean,

Above everything else guard your heart, because from it flow the springs of life.

You children of serpents! How can you say anything good when you are evil? The mouth speaks about what overflows from the heart.
