Peter was seated in the square outside the house, and a servant-girl came to him. She said: You were with Jesus the Galilean.

Early the next morning Elisha's servant got up and went out of the house. He saw the Syrian troops with their horses and chariots surrounding the town. He went to Elisha and said: Alas my master what shall we do?

To avoid temptation watch and pray. The spirit truly is willing but the flesh is weak.

They seized him and led him away. They took him to the high priest's house. Peter followed from a distance.

Simon Peter stood nearby warming himself. They asked him: Are you also one of his disciples? He denied it saying: I am not.

At first no one defended me. They all abandoned me. May it not be counted against them.

Suddenly a storm blew in and the boat was covered with waves. Jesus was asleep.

Arise, O Jehovah! Save me, O my God! You have slapped all my enemies in the face. You have broken the teeth of wicked people.

([Psalm of David]) Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck!

They reeled and staggered like drunks, and all their skills as sailors became useless.

The ropes of death became tangled around me. The fear of the grave took hold of me. I experienced pain and agony.

Waters were flowing over my head; I said: I am cut off.

He said: I called to Jehovah because of my affliction. And he answered me! Out of the belly of the grave I cried and you heard my voice.

I was given a painful physical ailment that will keep me from being puffed up with pride because of the many wonderful things I saw. It acts as Satan's messenger to beat me and keep me from being proud.
