But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude because they held him as a prophet.

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude because they counted him as a prophet.

And of whom hast thou reverenced or feared? Why dost thou lie; that thou hast not remembered me, nor have I come to thy thought? Have I not held my peace even of old, and thou hast never feared me?

And the princes of the priests and scribes sought how they might kill him, but they feared the people.

These words spoke his parents because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone did confess that he was the Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

Then the captain with the officers went and brought them without violence, for they feared being stoned by the people.
