but they could not, although many false witnesses came forward to testify. At last two men came forward

Some took the witness stand and gave this false testimony against Him:

let your message be wholesome and unobjectionable, so that our opponent may be put to shame at having nothing evil to say about us.

and keep your conscience clear, so that those who bitterly abuse your excellent conduct as Christians may be ashamed of slandering you.
