And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?

Take wise men with understanding, who are known among your tribes. I will make them rulers over you.'

Appoint judges and officers for your tribes in every city Jehovah your God gives you. They are to judge the people fairly.

He appointed judges in the country, in each fortified city of Judah.

Are all the workers of wickedness, those who devour my people as if they were devouring food, so ignorant that they do not call on Jehovah?

([Psalm of Asaph]) God stands in the congregation of the mighty. He pronounces judgment among the god-like ones: (John 10:35)

I thought: These are only the poor and ignorant. They are foolish. They do not know what their God requires, what Jehovah wants them to do.

I speak to shame you. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? Not one who would be able to judge between his brothers?

Do not deny justice to a poor person at his trial.

When there is a dispute between men and they go to court, and the judges decide their case. They justify the righteous and condemn the wicked.

Say to them: Listen to the word of Jehovah, kings of Judah, and all Judah and all inhabitants of Jerusalem who come in through these gates:
