The Divine Warrior Will Attack Nineveh

1 He who dashes in pieces has come up against you. Keep the fortress! Watch the way! Strengthen your waist! Fortify your power mightily!

1 (a)The one who (A)scatters has come up against (b)you.Man the fortress, watch the road;(c)Strengthen your back, (d)summon all your strength.

1 He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

1 One who scatters is coming up against you.Man the fortifications!Watch the road!Brace(a) yourself!Summon all your strength!(A)

1 You are being attacked by advancing forces! Guard your rampart! Watch your roads! Prepare yourselves! Marshall your defenses!

2 For Yahweh restores the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel; for the destroyers have destroyed them, and ruined their vine branches.

2 For the Lord will restore the (B)splendor of Jacob(C)Like the splendor of Israel,Even though devastators have devastated themAnd (D)destroyed their vine branches.

2 For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

2 For the Lord will restore the majesty of Jacob,yes,(b) the majesty of Israel,though ravagers have ravaged themand ruined their vine branches.(B)

2 For the LORD will restore the glory of Jacob, just as he will restore the glory of Israel, although plunderers have devastated them, vandalizing their vine branches.

The Enemy Army Conquers The City Of Nineveh

3 The shield of his mighty men is made red. The valiant men are in scarlet. The chariots flash with steel in the day of his preparation, and the pine spears are brandished.

3 The shields of (e)his mighty men are colored red,The warriors are dressed in (E)scarlet,The chariots are enveloped in (f)flashing steel(g)When he is prepared to march,And the cypress (F)spears are brandished.

3 The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.

3 The shields of his(c) warriors are dyed red;the valiant men are dressed in scarlet.(C)The fittings of the chariot flash like fireon the day of its battle preparations,and the spears are brandished.

3 The shields deployed by Israel's elite forces are scarlet, their valiant men are clothed in crimson. When they are prepared, the polished armament on their chariots will shine, and lances will be brandished about ferociously.

4 The chariots rage in the streets. They rush back and forth in the broad ways. Their appearance is like torches. They run like the lightnings.

4 The (G)chariots race madly in the streets,They rush wildly in the (h)squares,Their appearance is like torches,They dash to and fro like lightning flashes.

4 The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.

4 The chariots dash madly through the streets;they rush around in the plazas.They look like torches;they dart back and forth like lightning.

4 Their chariots storm through the streets, jostling each other along broad avenues. They look like torches, as they dart around like lightning.

5 He summons his picked troops. They stumble on their way. They dash to its wall, and the protective shield is put in place.

5 He remembers his (H)nobles;They (I)stumble in their march,They hurry to her wall,And the (i)mantelet is set up.

5 He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.

5 He gives orders to his officers;they stumble as they advance.They race to its wall;the protective shield is set in place.

5 He will remember to summon his finest troops. They will stumble on their way, hurrying over to Nineveh's wall. Their defensive shield is in place.

6 The gates of the rivers are opened, and the palace is dissolved.

6 The gates of the rivers are openedAnd the palace is dissolved.

6 The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.

6 The river gates are opened,and the palace erodes away.(D)

6 The river gates will be opened, and the palace will collapse.

Nineveh's Treasures Will Be Taken

7 It is decreed: she is uncovered, she is carried away; and her handmaids moan as with the voice of doves, beating on their breasts.

7 It is fixed:She is stripped, she is carried away,And her handmaids are (J)moaning like the sound of doves,(K)Beating on their (j)breasts.

7 And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.

7 Beauty(d) is stripped,(e)she is carried away;her ladies-in-waiting moanlike the sound of doves,(E)and beat their breasts.

7 It has been determined: The woman is unveiled and sent away, her servant girls mourn. Beating their breasts, they whimper like doves.

8 But Nineveh has been from of old like a pool of water, yet they flee away. "Stop! Stop!" they cry, but no one looks back.

8 Though Nineveh was like a pool of water throughout her days,Now they are fleeing;“Stop, stop,”But (L)no one turns back.

8 But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.

8 Nineveh has been like a pool of waterfrom her first days,(f)but they are fleeing.“Stop! Stop!” they cry,but no one turns back.

8 Nineveh is a reservoir whose water is draining away. "Wait! Wait!" they cry, yet not even one person looks back.

9 Take the spoil of silver. Take the spoil of gold, for there is no end of the store, the glory of all goodly furniture.

9 Plunder the silver!Plunder the (M)gold!For there is no limit to the treasure—Wealth from every kind of desirable object.

9 Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.

9 “Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold!”There is no end to the treasure,an abundance of every precious thing.(F)

9 Take the silver! Take the gold! There is no end to the treasure fabulous riches of every imagination.

10 She is empty, void, and waste. The heart melts, the knees knock together, their bodies and faces have grown pale.

10 She is (N)emptied! Yes, she is desolate and waste!(O)Hearts are melting and knees knocking!Also anguish is in (k)the whole bodyAnd all their (P)faces are grown pale!

10 She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

10 Desolation, decimation, devastation!Hearts melt,(G)knees tremble,loins shake,every face grows pale!(H)

10 Nineveh is devastated, deserted, and desolate. Her heart melts, her knees knock. Every stomach is upset, every face grows pale.

The Divine Warrior Will Hunt Down The Mighty Lions

11 Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion's cubs, and no one made them afraid?

11 Where is the den of the lionsAnd the feeding place of the (Q)young lions,Where the lion, lioness and lion’s cub prowled,With nothing to disturb them?

11 Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?

11 Where is the lions’ lair,(I)or the feeding ground of the young lions,where the lion and lioness prowled,and the lion’s cub,with nothing to frighten them away?(J)

11 Where is this lion's den? Where is the place where the young lions fed, where the lion and its mate walked with their young, the place where they feared nothing?

12 The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with the kill, and his dens with prey.

12 The lion tore enough for his cubs,(l)Killed enough for his lionesses,And filled his lairs with preyAnd his dens with torn flesh.

12 The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

12 The lion mauled whatever its cubs neededand strangled prey for its lionesses.It filled up its dens with the kill,and its lairs with mauled prey.(K)

12 This lion renders its prey to pieces to feed its whelps, and strangles enough prey for its mate, filling its lairs with prey and its dens with rendered flesh.

13 "Behold, I am against you," says Yahweh of Armies, "and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions; and I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard."

13 “Behold, (R)I am against you,” declares the Lord of hosts. “I will (S)burn up her chariots in smoke, a sword will devour your young lions; I will (T)cut off your prey from the land, and no longer will the voice of your messengers be heard.”

13 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.

13 Beware, I am against you.(L)This is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.I will make your chariots go up in smoke(g)and the sword will devour your young lions.I will cut off your prey from the earth,and the sound of your messengerswill never be heard again.

13 "I am against you," declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "and I will send your chariots up in smoke. A sword will devour your young lions, I will eliminate your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard."
