Verse Concepts These priests serve [in a sanctuary] that is [only] a copy and a foreshadow of the heavenly one. Now Moses was warned [by God] when he was about to build the Tabernacle, for God said [Ex. 25:40], "See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain [i.e., Mount Sinai]."

His voice shook the earth [at Mount Sinai] then, but now He has given a promise, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the [starry] heaven.”

And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day. Come not near a woman. And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of an exceedingly loud trumpet. And all the people who were in the camp trembled. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the lower part of the mount. And mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because LORD descended upon it in fire, and the smoke of it ascended as the smoke of a furnace. And the whole mount quaked greatly. And when the voice of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice. And LORD came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount. And LORD called Moses to the top of the mount, and Moses went up. And LORD said to Moses, Go down, command the people, lest they break through to LORD to gaze, and many of them perish. And let the priests also, who come near to LORD, sanctify themselves, lest LORD break forth upon them. And Moses said to LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai, for thou commanded us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it. And LORD said to him, Go, get thee down. And thou shall come up, thou, and Aaron with thee, but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to LORD, lest he break forth upon them. So Moses went down to the people, and told them.

And Moses went up onto the mount, and the cloud covered the mount. And the glory of LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. And the appearance of the glory of LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the sons of Israel. And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. And the tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved upon the tablets.
And be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to mount Sinai, and present thyself there to me on the top of the mount. And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount, neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount. And he hewed two tablets of stone like the first. And Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up to mount Sinai, as LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone.
And LORD spoke to Moses on mount Sinai, saying,
These are the commandments, which LORD commanded Moses for the sons of Israel on mount Sinai.
Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that LORD spoke with Moses in mount Sinai:
For who is there of all flesh, who has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?
