Thine ear

Jehovah my God, I am your servant. Listen to my prayer. Grant the requests I make to you today.

Finally, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

Jehovah's eyes watch over righteous people. His ears hear their cry for help.

Jehovah, do hear my voice! Let your ears listen to the voice of my supplications.

Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant, and to his supplications, and cause your face to shine upon your sanctuary that is desolate, for Jehovah's sake.

Day and night

I am sorry that I made Saul king. He has turned away from me and disobeyed my commands. Samuel was angry. All night long he pleaded with Jehovah.

Morning, noon, and night I complain and murmur. He listens to my voice.

([Sons of Korah]) O Jehovah, God of my salvation I cry out to you day and night.

She had been a widow eighty-four years. She never left the temple. She worshipped and fasted with supplications day and night.

Should God avenge his chosen that cry to him day and night, and yet he is longsuffering over them?

Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, has her hope set on God, and continues in supplications and prayers day and night.

I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as my forefathers did, that without ceasing, I remember you in my prayers, day and night.

Confess

I said, O my God, shame keeps me from lifting up my face (praying) to you (being in your presence), my God: for our sins have increased higher than our heads and our evil-doing has come up to heaven.

Give praise to Jehovah, the God of your fathers, and do his will. Separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the strange women.

I confessed my sins to you, and I did not cover up my guilt. I decided to confess them to you, O Jehovah. Then you forgave all my sins.

All of us have become unclean, and all our righteous acts are like permanently stained rags. All of us wither like leaves, and our sins carry us away like the wind.

What protest may a living man make? Can a man protest about the punishment for his sin?

And I prayed to Jehovah my God, and made confession, and said, Oh, Jehovah, the great and fear-inspiring (awesome) God, who keeps his covenant and loving kindness for those who love him and keep his commandments.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Now you intend to enslave the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem. But are you not also guilty of sinning against Jehovah your God?

Our ancestors were unfaithful and did what Jehovah our God considered evil. They deserted him. They turned away from Jehovah's tent and turned their backs on him.

We have sinned like our fathers! We have committed iniquity and have behaved wickedly.

Woe to me! I cried. I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips (a sinner) and I live among a people of unclean (filthy) lips (speech) (language). My eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of Hosts.

Our fathers were sinners and are dead. The weight of their evil deeds is on us.

We all once lived in the lust of our flesh, indulging the desires (lusts) of the flesh and of the mind. We were by nature children of anger and violent passion, like everyone else.
