Balaam's Oracles

¹ Then said Balaam unto Balak: Build me here seven altars, - and prepare me here, seven bullocks and seven rams. ² And Balak did as Balaam had spoken, - and Balak and Balaam caused to ascend a bullock and a ram on each altar.

Exodus 20:24

An altar of earth, shalt thou make to me, then shalt thou offer thereupon thine ascending-sacrifices and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen. In every place where I may mention my name, will I come in unto thee and will bless thee.

Alas for them! because - in the way of Cain have they gone, and, in the error of Balaam's wage, have they run riot, and, in the gainsaying of Korah, have they perished.
