A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been to me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

For if thou shalt altogether hold thy peace at this time, then will there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house will be destroyed: and who knoweth, whether thou hast come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

For both he that sanctifieth, and they who are sanctified, are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
