Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

Securing a loan for a stranger will bring suffering, but by refusing to do so, one remains safe.

Don't be one of those who make promises to guarantee loans for debts.

Take the coat of anyone who puts up security for a stranger; hold it in pledge if he cosigns for an immoral woman.

If you take your neighbor's coat as collateral, you are to return it to him by sunset,

delivering you from the adulteress, from the immoral woman with her seductive words,

For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil.

so they can keep you from an adulterous woman, from the immoral woman with her seductive words.

because a prostitute is a deep pit, and the adulterous woman a narrow well.

If you don't have the ability to pay, why should your very bed be taken from under you?
