When a land is in rebellion, it has many rulers,
but with a discerning and knowledgeable person, it endures.

And now don’t be worried or angry with yourselves for selling me here, because God sent me ahead of you to preserve life.

Nadab son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Judah’s King Asa; he reigned over Israel two years.

In the third year of Judah’s King Asa, Baasha killed Nadab and reigned in his place.

In the twenty-sixth year of Judah’s King Asa, Elah son of Baasha became king over Israel and reigned in Tirzah two years.

In the thirty-eighth year of Judah’s King Azariah, Zechariah son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in Samaria for six months.

King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz prayed about this and cried out to heaven,

Then the common people took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and made him king in Jerusalem in place of his father.

When you make a decision, it will be carried out,
and light will shine on your ways.

Now a poor wise man was found in the city, and he delivered the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man.

Observe this: The Lord God of Hosts
is about to remove from Jerusalem and from Judah
every kind of security:
the entire supply of bread and water,

Some of you will rebuild the ancient ruins;
you will restore the foundations laid long ago;
you will be called the repairer of broken walls,
the restorer of streets where people live.

Therefore, may my advice seem good to you my king. Separate yourself from your sins by doing what is right, and from your injustices by showing mercy to the needy. Perhaps there will be an extension of your prosperity.”

I give you a king in My anger
and take away a king in My wrath.
