Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice.

For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

He said to them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry—

For God said:

Honor your father and your mother;

and,

The one who speaks evil of father or mother
must be put to death.

And He said to them, “It is written, My house will be called a house of prayer.

But you are making it a den of thieves!”

Jesus answered them, “You are deceived, because you don’t know the Scriptures or the power of God.

For the residents of Jerusalem and their rulers, since they did not recognize Him or the voices of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled their words by condemning Him.

After arranging a day with him, many came to him at his lodging. From dawn to dusk he expounded and witnessed about the kingdom of God. He tried to persuade them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets.
