¹ Unto Yahweh, in the distress that befell me, I cried - and he answered me.

¹ A Song of ^(a)Ascents.^(A)In my trouble I cried to the Lord,And He answered me.

¹ {A Song of degrees.} In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.

² What shall be given to thee, and what shall be added to thee, thou deceitful tongue?

² Deliver my soul, O Lord, from ^(B)lying lips,From a ^(C)deceitful tongue.

² Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

² “Lord, deliver me from lying lipsand a deceitful tongue.”^(B)

³ The arrows of the hero sharpened, with burning coals of broom.

⁴ Woe is me, That I sojourn in Meshek, - That I abide near the tents of Kedar!

⁴ ^(E)Sharp arrows of the warrior,With the burning ^(F)coals of the broom tree.

⁴ Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

⁴ Like a sharp arrow from a warrior, along with fiery coals from juniper trees!

⁵ Long, hath my soul had her dwelling with him that hateth peace:

⁵ Woe is me, for I sojourn in ^(G)Meshech,For I dwell among the ^(H)tents of ^(I)Kedar!

⁵ Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

⁵ How terrible for me, that I am an alien in Meshech, that I reside among the tents of Kedar!

⁶ I, am for peace, and verily I speak, They, are for war!

⁶ Too long has my soul had its dwellingWith those who ^(J)hate peace.

⁶ My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

⁶ I have lived too longwith those who hate peace.^(G)
